October at Main Street Family Medicine: Staying Healthy This Fall

Fall is officially here, and October is a great time to focus on keeping your family healthy as the weather cools down. Adult and pediatric flu vaccines are now available at Main Street Family Medicine! Protect yourself and your loved ones this season by scheduling your annual flu shot with our team.

We also want to remind our community about the rise in whooping cough (pertussis) across Washington State. Early symptoms can look like a common cold before progressing to severe coughing fits. Staying up to date on recommended vaccinations is the best defense, and if you or a family member develops a persistent or worsening cough, please contact our office before coming in so we can help keep other patients safe.

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Routine mammograms can help detect breast cancer early, when treatment options are often greater. For individuals at average risk, guidelines generally recommend beginning annual screening at age 40. Talk with your healthcare provider about what screening schedule is right for you.

And don't forget to enjoy everything fall has to offer! From pumpkin patches and harvest festivals to scenic drives through the changing leaves, there are plenty of ways to enjoy October around Vancouver.

Thank you for being part of the Main Street Family Medicine family. We hope you have a safe, healthy, and fun-filled fall!
